DISS LOCAL HISTORY FESTIVAL
18 May - 3 June 2007
Having commemorated John Skelton (2004) and John
Betjeman (2006) Diss now celebrates its own local
history in a two week festival run by the museum. Find
out about the grislier side of the town's past in the
Murder Tour. Hear the many stories the graves have to
tell in the Cemetery Tour. Go on History Walks. Visit
the Cupiss works which is like going back to the 19th
century. Hear talks about personalities of the past,
like Tom Paine and Thomas Manning. Hear what the 'Old
Booys and Gals' of the town remember in a public
reminiscence session. Visit the Junior School as it
celebrates its Victorian past. Take the kids to fun
activities in half-term. Have a World War Two lunch
with the Women's Institute. See the Morris Men in the
market place and activities all down Mere Street. See
the re-make of the Betjeman film. Create an historical
meal in a day. All this and schools projects; a WEA
local history day with talks and tours; church
activities; reminiscence in all three sheltered
housing centres; and new displays in the museum and
shops. This is Diss as you have never seen it before.
