Come and buy your Spring Flowers! (Locat food, from 12-May-2007 09:00 to 12-May-2007 13:00) by Suzanne Kayne
Springfield Farm and Nursery run by Kate Parfitt and her husband is a small family run nursery established in the late 1960s specialising in pelargoniums. Kate’s father in law, who founded the Nursery, frequently exhibited at the Chelsea Flower Show in the 1970s and subsequently at various other shows. Kate’s father in law died in 1984 when Kate and her husband took over the running of the Nursery which is now run alongside their own family farm. Since 1984 the Nursery has changed from a largely wholesale trade to concentrating on growing for farmers’ markets and specialist plant sales. The Parfitts still grow a very wide range of pelargoniums – regals, angels, zonals, scented and ivies, but have also branched out to provide their customers with a wide-ranging selection of fuchsias, shrubs, perennials and seasonal bedding. Come and visit Kate and her son Ian at the next Diss Farmers’ Market on Saturday 12 May in Market Square between 9 and 1pm. There will be live music provided by Peter and Marion and the usual raffle to win a bumper sized hamper of produce donated by all the stalls. Please come along and support this enthusiastic, growing market. Buying from Diss Farmers' market helps our local farmers and small food producers to survive and thrive. It has become much livelier and busier in the past few months, since the Diss Community Partnership started to promote it, as part of the Diss Cittaslow campaign and its drive to make Diss a great place for local food. With your continued support and enthusiasm, the Market will grow and grow, and become a bigger, even more exciting market and help the town.
