Hi Gary,

I'm just playing around with things to see how some of it works for a user perspective. I wonder if you could create me as an administrator on this username?

I'm wondering where else this will show up...

I might pop in an see you on may way through Diss tomorrow pm to chat a bout a couple of things. Will call later.

I can reply to myself.

Maps

Posted by Josiah Thomas Meldrum at 21-July-2008 14:05
There is a function called Gmaps in the 'add to folder' tool bar (by the the labeling of some of the tool bars is, in my view, problematic). It may work in principle, but as far as I can see it has no practical function as the information is requests is too complex.

You have used something called AtGooglemaps to embed your maps - I can see where you got this app from at the moment.

There seems to be a problem in that it appears impossible (to me and so and so I suspect to most users) to embed an image in a text page. If that is correct and one can only link to images from text pages then I might as well create maps outside DissConnected and link to them - this isn't really ideal as it takes readers away from the site, but is a lot easier and just as sensible as the current system.

Images

Ok I've done it.

There must have been something wrong with the Jpg I was trying to upload, I've used a different one and had some success...

Now I need to work out how to make text wrap around it.

Wrapped

Right done that too. The only remaining issue is getting the image on the DissConnected home page to link to the image in the text rather than the image as a file in the folder.

Image problems

Posted by Josiah Thomas Meldrum at 21-July-2008 14:25
Image problems others are having may be caused due to confusion over folder names and the level at which actions are happening (add image to folder rather than page). The 'My Folder' area is really confusing 'my pages' or 'my mini-site' might be easier for people to relate to - just because it is a folder doesn't mean it should be called one.

Comments

I notice that the comments are building down rather than up. I think this should be reversed (unless there is a limit beyond which the page only displays the most recent 5 or so posts) otherwise one has to do too much scrolling.

Profile and My Folder

I think these should be reallocated.

When I click on my name I want to see my pages (what is currently called 'my folder'). In effect reversing the two tabs would do the job.

Looks like these comment will continue listing down and won't compress...

Comments Again

Posted by Josiah Thomas Meldrum at 21-July-2008 14:27
Is this comments feature all that useful?

If a decent discussion folder gets developed can it be junked or at least have restricted permissions? If DissConnected had 1000s of members all commenting o each others pages it could get very messy and confusing.

I meant discussion function not folder...
