Tories win South Norfolk election
The Conservative Party is celebrating a landslide victory in South Norfolk after taking 39 seats on the district council, to the Liberal Democrats seven.
Vivienne Clifford-Jackson, leader of South Norfolk Council, was one of the Liberal Democrat candidates who lost their seat.
"I'm devastated," she said. "We thought it would be tight - I thought there would be a lot of recounts.
"But we had not given our opposition due credit for the help they were getting behind the scenes and from London."
John Fuller, leader of the Conservatives in South Norfolk, called it 'the cream of victories'.
"I am absolutely delighted," he said.
"It is one of the biggest swings in the whole country.
"It was said that South Norfolk was one of the key battle grounds in the country and the electorate did not disappoint."
The Tories also hold the upper hand in Mid Suffolk with 22 of the 40 seats in their hands.
Forty-two of 55 seats on Suffolk Coastal District Council are also Conservative, an increase of three, following the defeat of one Labour and two Liberal Democrats candidates.
