About the eXchange

by Gary Alexander last modified 31-January-2008 12:17

People give and receive from each other, on an organised basis, some for FREE and some PAID, on a basis of trust and integrity.

What do you want? What can you offer?

We are setting up groups to organise eXchange in these or similar areas, guided by what you want. We are looking for people to help organise these groups and volunteers to work in them.

Food: healthy local food – garden produce? soups? cakes? a cooked meal for busy people? (instead of supermarket instant junk food)
Transport: lifts? deliveries? moving bulky items?
Childcare: registered and monitored
Technical help: problems with computers? mobile phones? DVD players? etc.
Mediation and conflict resolution: help to resolve problems in the eXchange, or family and relationship problems or with friends or colleagues before they get too serious.
Social and emotional support
: help for carers, for personal difficulties, a sympathetic ear.
Odd jobs: cleaning? gardening? errands? shopping? car servicing or whatever...
Goods: Stuff that is still useful and needs a good home.
Virtual libraries: circulate books, videos, dvds, cds, works of art...
Organising and managing DissConnected! Helping to organise one of the above groups, or DissConnected overall.

The FREE eXchange

Members contribute as much as suits them, and receive from the pool of contributions. Everyone gives, everyone receives, keeping a rough balance between giving and receiving.

Why a FREE eXchange?

  • Giving and receiving for free feels good and builds relationships.
  • It is easy: No arguing over prices and wages. No record keeping, no invoices to chase.
  • Everyone is different. Keeping only a rough balance allows for this.
  • Allows peoples' hard earned money to go further, volunteer organisers keep costs of DissConnected low.

The PAID eXchange

  • Give preference to our independent member businesses, full-time tradespeople, craftspeople, professionals, or our skilled part-timers. Members should expect special treatment from them.
  • Creating part-time employment and income for those that want it. Earn money on a basis of trust and respect.
  • Contribute positive recommendations where you get good service so we all can  trade based on recommendations of our neighbours.
  • Send problems to our panel of mediators so that conflicts can be resolved and integrity maintained.

Payment and fees to DissConnected

We ask people and businesses who earn money from the DissConnected eXchange to DONATE a proportion to DissConnected (once the donation system has been set up!). We suggest 5%, but this is on the honour system, in keeping with our philosophy, and to minimise administration.

All funds received go towards the running costs of DissConnected or for the benefit of the community as decided by members through the Forum. There are no owners or shareholders who profit from DissConnected!
