Formed
in 2006 with grants from the Diss Community Partnership, Awards for All
and the Broads and Rivers Community Chest, Diss Film Society screens
independent, foreign, low budget and art house films, as well as some
box office hits. We use high specification digital equipment and show
our films in a comfortable auditorium.
At the Film Society of the Year Awards, Diss Film Society received a commendation in the the best new society category.
We
screen at the Park Hotel in Diss fortnightly, on Monday evenings.
Doors open at 7pm and screenings start at 8pm. Admission is £3 for
members (see below), £4 for non-members and £2 for students under 21.
As our cinema seats only about 80 people, it has to be first come first
served, for members and non-members alike.
But
there is a bar and restaurant at the hotel, where you can get a drink
or eat before the show. All in all, a proper cinema experience but in
an intimate, convivial setting.
BECOME A MEMBER
You
can become a member of Diss Film Society by paying £5, at any of our
screenings’. This entitles you to 12 months’ membership. The advantages
to membership are.
• you pay a reduced entrance fee of £3 (non-members £4)
• you have the right to vote at the society’s AGM and have a say on how the society is run
• you can have the forthcoming season’s programming delivered via email or post
• we will email you details on up and coming special events and news about the society.
As
with any society, there are things to do to make sure everything runs
smoothly. We have a committee which has taken the society this far.
However, there are always opportunities for film fans to help put the
show on. You are always welcome to volunteer at a screening.
The
Park Hotel is fully accessible to wheelchair users. There is free
parking in the Park Hotel grounds. If this is full, there is free
parking at Fair Green and nearby on Victoria Road (next to the park;
ask at the box office).
