IMDB Details A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE
Director: Alfred Hitchcock
Cast: John Gielgud, Peter Lorre, Madeleine Carroll
Origin: UK
Year: 1936
Running Time: 86 mins
Hitchcock at the height of his pre-Hollywood powers. In between The Thirty-nine Steps and The Lady Vanishes, the master brings us John Gielgud as a novelist persuaded into espionage; Peter Lorre and Madeleine Carroll are his assistants. Their job: to eliminate a German spy, but mistaken identity complicates things and raises moral issues.

Startling set pieces and quirky characterisation make this one of Hitchcock's most creative early movies'.
