Past Events for Slow Food Waveney Valley
A list of what we have done over the past few years. Join us and come to our events and/or help to organise them with us.
- 7th Dec. 2005 - ‘Seasonal Event at Castle’s Café’ - mulled wine, mince pies, seasonal readings. About 30 people.
- 12 Jan. 2006 - Public Debate at DC3 church - "Super Markets? The heroes or villains of our food system?" chaired by Richard Bacon MP, attended by over 200 people.
- 31st March 2006 - Shared meal at Palgrave Village Hall - We provided baked potatos, everyone brought a dish. Richard Mabey spoke. Over 60 people attended.
- 23rd May 2006 - Farm Visit and meal - Visit to a local organic farm in Hoxne, and a meal of local food at the Hoxne Swan afterwards. About 50 people attended.
- 1st July 2006 - Food & Craft Fair-on-the-Green - Organised together with the Fair Green Neighbourhood Association (with Slow Food members leading the organising committee.) Between 800 - 1000 people attended. We applied for and received, a grant of £880 from Awards for All for the Fair.
- 12th July 2006 - presentation to South Norfolk Alliance - Gary Alexander made a presentation of Slow Food Waveney Valley and Cittaslow Diss to this influential group.
- 27th August 2006 - Local Organic Sunday Brunch at the Angel Café, Fair Green - A lively meal attended by about 30 people.
- 21st September 2006 - Wisset Vineyard - A tour of the vineyard, a wine tasting and then a fine dinner. Over 30 people attended.
- 27th October, 2006 - Harvest Supper in the Diss Corn Hall - We provided pumpkin soup and baked potatoes and the members brought food to share. There were over 30 people attending.
- 10th March 2007 - Gourmet Meal at the Backspace, Fair Green. Over 60 people squeezed into the Backspace, the community room behind the Angel Café, for a fine meal provided by 3 local providers. Live music from the Lizzy Smith Band.
- AGM on 28th June 2007 - at Les Amandines Restaurant, followed by a vegetarian meal of mainly local ingredients. About 40 people attended.
- 22nd November 2007 - Thanksgiving Feast at Diss Corn Hall. Turkey and trimmings supplied by Frederick’s Fine Foods, the rest provided by the attendees on a bring-food-to-share basis. Entertainment by Rough at the Edges. About 60 people attended.
- 19th April 2008 - Shared meal and committee meeting. A feast provided by attendees, who also began planning for the Taste of Diss Festival of Local Food. About 15 people attended.
